Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 November 2026

This policy explains what personal data AuthorGem collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we need to run the service.

1. What we collect

  • Account data: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile picture from Google.
  • Your content: the details you enter for a book, the books AuthorGem writes, your edits, cover designs and images you generate or upload.
  • Usage data: how many books and cover images you create, error reports from the app, and basic technical data such as IP address and browser, used for security and to keep the service running.
  • Payment data: when payments are enabled, they are handled by our payment provider. We do not see or store your full card number.

2. Why we use it

  • to provide the service – write, check, save and export your books and covers (contract);
  • to manage your account, plan and limits, and to contact you about your account (contract);
  • to keep AuthorGem secure, prevent abuse and fix errors (legitimate interest);
  • to meet accounting and other legal obligations (legal obligation).

We do not sell your data, and we do not use your books to train AI models or to market AuthorGem.

3. Who we share it with

We use trusted providers that process data on our behalf, only for their part of the service:

  • Hosting, database, file storage and sign-in – our cloud platform;
  • Artificial intelligence providers – receive the book details and text needed to write, check and illustrate your book. We use them under terms where your content is not used to train their models;
  • Scholarly reference databases – receive search terms such as study titles and author names to verify references, never your account details;
  • Google – if you choose to sign in with Google;
  • Payment provider – when payments are enabled.

Some providers are located outside the EU/EEA. Where that is the case, transfers are protected by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

4. How long we keep it

We keep your account and books for as long as you have an account. When you delete a book or a cover, it is removed from the service; backups are overwritten within 30 days. When you close your account, we delete your personal data and content, except what we must keep by law (for example billing records).

5. Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it. Write to us and we will answer within one month. If you are in the EU/EEA or the UK, you may also complain to your data protection authority – in Sweden, IMY (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten).

6. Cookies and local storage

AuthorGem uses only what is needed to work: your sign-in session and small settings saved in your browser. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

7. Children

AuthorGem is for adults only. You must be 18 or older to use it, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. See the Terms of Service.

8. Security

Your data is stored with encryption in transit, access to your books is limited to your own account, and API keys for our providers are never sent to your browser. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password or Google sign-in.

9. Changes

If we change this policy in a significant way, we will tell you by email or in the app before the change applies.
